The Hotel: Boranup Forest Retreat
Boranup Forest Retreat is nestled in the bush on a 50-acre property. It is designed for tranquility and seclusion, and visitors can enjoy the visiting emus, kangaroos and the elusive resident goanna. Despite its leafy location, Boranup Lodge remains only about 15 minutes from Margaret River, local beaches, caves and wineries as well as 30 minutes from Augusta, where two oceans meet, and an ideal spot to catch a glimpse of huge whales or frolicking dolphins.
Perfect for large holidaying groups or a romantic vacation for two, the Lodge adds a homey touch to getaways. The spacious abode ensures Groupies are free to relax and unwind wherever they choose, including three indoor seating areas, outdoor pergola and bubbling spa. Folks can get competitive and enjoy a game of disc golf before cooking up a storm in the kitchen to feed the masses, or enjoying a BBQ feast outdoors while spotting wandering wildlife.

The Area: Margaret River
The Margaret River region welcomes more than half-a-million visitors every year and the haven in Western Australia’s South West is home to some of the world’s most famous, award-winning drops. While it’s the wineries that characterise this holiday hotspot, Margaret River offers all manner of other gourmet pleasures like chocolate, olive oil and ice cream which together have made it one of the top destinations in Australia when it comes to fine food and fresh produce.
A trip to Margaret River would not be complete without visiting one of the internationally acclaimed wineries. Leeuwin Estate and Vasse Felix are two of the more obvious choices due to their size and stature, or eco-warriors may prefer learning the sustainable methods of Cullen Winery. A trip to the vines could be combined with a fine dining experience, where dishes are prepared in mod-Aus fashion from the freshest seasonal ingredients in exciting combinations.
Tastings of the non-alcohol kind are plentiful, with travellers tempted by artisan chocolates, honeycomb, olive oil, ice cream or cheese. When the sun is shining, a nearby beach like Redgate surf beach or Hamlin bay provides either pretty vistas or challenging surf depending on personal preference, or just a simple drive along the coastline offers true blue scenery that’s hard to compare with anything else.
Children and adults alike will marvel over the stunning Leeuwin caves with their millennia-old mineral wonders, and hours can be spent at several local hedge mazes where wits are sure to be tested.
Ratings & Reviews
TripAdvisor 4 / 5 |
We found the deal on Groupon for a 2 night stay in Boranup Forest Retreat and it was amazing. The place was spacious, plates and utensils clean, bed was cozy, and we loved using the fireplace. It was nice and quiet and it gave us a lot of privacy. The spa was nice, we enjoyed the spa while drinking one of the complimentary wines. The staff members, Sheila and Terry were very nice and helpful and helped us with any needs.

We recently stayed in the Kookaburra Chalet for 2 nights a week and a half ago and absolutely loved it! The property was stunning and the surroundings made the stay extremely peaceful and relaxing. The chalet had everything we needed to make our stay special and the spa and the fire were amazing, perfect for a winter's evening!
