The Hotel: Ramada Resort Phillip Island
Escape the bustle of Melbourne with a trip to the beachfront location of Ramada Resort Phillip Island. Enjoy scenic ocean views as you take advantage of a short stroll or bike ride around your new surroundings. Take a short trip to Victoria’s famous surfing spots or head to nearby seaside villages for some shopping or a bite to eat at the many cafes and restaurants in the area. Spend your stay with activities such as koala spotting, swimming, or penguin watching at Penguin Parade or opt for a stroll around the resort for a day of bird watching or a picnic with loved ones. A late 12pm checkout gives you some extra time to catch up on sleep or take a last minute stroll around the beachside town before heading home.
The Area: Phillip Island, Vic
A mere 90 minutes’ drive from Melbourne, Phillip Island has long been a popular tourist destination for Melbournians keen to escape the city to be at one with nature. Treasured for its varied collection of Australian wildlife, the island is home to kangaroos and wallabies, fur seals and Pacific gulls. In spite of its diminutive stature, the little penguin stands out as the highlight of the region’s animal inhabitants, with a large population of the slate-blue seabirds making their nests in dune burrows along the sandy beach.
The best way to see the small birds is via the Penguin Parade at Summerland beach, where scores of penguins journey across the sand to their nests each and every day at sunset. Next head over to the Koala Conservation Centre to meet even more cuddly creatures. Take a stroll down the Woodland Boardwalk and talk to rangers about what they are doing to protect the sleepy marsupials.
There’s no better vantage to view the coastal scenery than during a walk, and plenty are available nearby for travellers to choose their level of difficulty. Head to Cape Woolamai to catch a glimpse of shearwater and mutton bird colonies then cap it off with a stroll along the pristine beach. After all that walking bodies deserve a treat in the form of a visit to Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. See the world’s largest chocolate waterfall, robots and plenty of interactive displays and cap off the tour by taking home some sweets from the retail store.

The location is ideal to some of our favourite locations at Phillip Island, Smiths Beach and Cowes. Each cabin is privately located allowing us to enjoy our holiday without feeling like we were spending it with people we didn't know. We enjoyed the pools (although a little cold), had a great game of tennis and even relaxed in the outdoor spa.

We stayed as a family for one night. The unit was clean, spacious and comfortable. This place is lots of independent units in landscaped gardens. Like a very posh caravan park. Nicely landscaped with walking paths. Lots of space for little ones to ride bikes or play.
