The Area: 1770, Queensland
Located roughly half way between Bundaberg and Gladstone, Seventeen Seventy (also, 1770), is a quaint village built on the site of James Cook’s second landing. The town and its twin town, Agnes Water, offer visitors the chance to escape to a sun-drenched stretch of sub-tropical coastline, surrounded by estuaries, coastal rainforests, and National and Marine parks.
Wile away the afternoon with a good book and good company, and be sure to stay long enough to see one of 1770’s dramatic sunsets. This stretch of coast is one of only three places on the east coast where you can witness the sun setting over water.
Travellers are never at a loss for something to do with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, the protected Fitzroy Reef Lagoon, and Lady Musgrave Island. Water babies head out for a surfing, scuba diving or snorkelling adventure; while landlubbers go fishing, explore Busted Head Bay’s lighthouse, or go 4WDing on rugged terrain.
