Have you heard the legend of Godiva? Maybe you’ve tasted one of their chocolate dipped strawberries in the fairy-tale square of medieval Bruges. Or you’ve queued on the bustling streets of Tokyo, just to sample one of their iconic truffles. If you happen to be new to one of the world’s greatest chocolatiers, well, that’s all set to change very soon.

Pierre Draps first dreamt up Godiva in 1926, meticulously crafting pralines from his home kitchen in Brussels. His children soon became collaborators, in their own words, they were ‘born into chocolate’. Indeed, even the GODIVA name is rooted in legend. Pierre Snr’s wife had such long, lustrous hair that her hairdresser anointed her ‘Lady Godiva’ – referring to the 11th century English heroine who famously rode her horse through the streets of Coventry in protest of excessive taxes, wearing nothing but her flowing locks.

Since those humble beginnings, Godiva has risen to become the official chocolatier to the Belgian Royal Court, gaining a reputation for mastery across the globe – and putting their homeland firmly on the tastemaker’s map in the process.

From their handcrafted chocolate delicacies, to their superbly designed stores and carefully considered gold adorned packaging – their obsession with the smallest of details is a pure labour of love. Over the years, Godiva has famously pioneered a distinctive brand of mouth-watering luxury. And while the chocolate may be a little dearer, customers savour every second of the experience.

Inspired by their innovative founder, they’re always seeking different ways to tell their story – experimenting with new recipes and perfecting old ones. Which is why they have entrusted their next chapter to five artisan chefs from across the globe – each chosen to develop refreshingly timeless recipes to be shared everywhere from Brussels to Tokyo.

Their first Australian store opened in December 2017 at Emporium Melbourne, with subsequent stores opening at Westfield Doncaster and Chadstone Shopping Centre. Now, they invite each and every one of you to experience the legend for yourself.
